The Galleria Riccardo Crespi is delighted to present Launch on Tactical Warning, the second exhibition to be staged at the gallery by the American artist Lisi Raskin.
Since the winter of 2008, Raskin has been working on Mobile Observation, a research project and a series of exhibitions exploring the act of producing art and the imagination in relation to specific traces of the Cold War in the United States and the deployment of American nuclear weapons around the world in the 1980s.
Launch on Tactical Warning represents the culmination of this research project and a series of exhibitions.
The installation consists of a site-specific work that is laid out on various levels of the gallery.
On the first floor Raskin exhibits a series of landscape drawings and works created by the inhabitant of the bunker underneath, the artist’s alter ego.
The visitor enters the exhibition space on the floor below, penetrating to three degrees of depth that present a disquieting scene: a multitude of missiles ready to be launched at the slightest whim of the occupant of the underground bunker.
The bunker is filled with sculptures representing the instruments needed to carry out missile tests, like the ones conducted at the White Sands Missile Range, between Las Cruces and Alamogordo, in New Mexico. Underneath the bunker a series of mobile submarine structures move around furtively with their missiles ready to be fired on the order to attack.
Mobile Observation is also the title of the book that will be published jointly by Galleria Riccardo Crespi and CCS Bard.
The book will document Lisi Raskin’s research, with texts by Maria Lind, Gabi Scardi and Risa Puleo as well as interviews with the artist conducted by Julia Bryan-Wilson and Marc Handelman.
The Mobile Observation projectincludes the exhibitions Command & Control, Park Avenue Armory, New York; Mobile Observation (Transmitting and Receiving) Station, Hessel Museum/CCS Bard, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY; Topside, Milliken Gallery, Stockholm, and Armada, The Blanton Museum, University of Texas, Austin.
Lisi Raskin took a master’s degree in Fine Arts at Columbia University in 2003 and since then her works have been shown in major joint exhibitions at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Gävle Konstcentrum and PS1 Contemporary Art Center.

Lisi Raskin lives and works in New York.

This year Lisi Raskin will take part in the Athens Biennial and Istanbul Biennial.
